Suggestion 1: Meraner Höhenweg south: Katharinaberg (1,245 m) – Pirchhof (1.445 m) – Hochforch (1,555 m) - Nassereith-Hütte (1,523 m) - Tablander Alm (1788 m) - Hochgang-Haus (1839 m) - Leiter Alm (1,522 m) - top end of the Hochmut cable car (1,361 m) - Longfallhof (1,075 m) - Vernuer (1,095 m) - Magdfeld (1,148 m) - Matatz (1,052 m) - Weiler Christl (1,029 m) - Ulfas (1,359 m)
Katharinaberg (Meraner Höhenweg) The trail Meraner Höhenweg is a round trail of around 100 km. Hiking tours on the Meraner Höhenweg can be begun and concluded at any point of the trail. It leads the hiker in five days around the Texelgruppe Nature Park . The trail can be divided into Meraner Höhenweg south and Meraner Höhenweg north. The southern trail leads from Katharinaberg in the Schnals Valley along the southern boundary of the nature park to Ulfas, situated above Platt in the Passeier Valley (marking 24). There are several rest houses along the trail, for example the Hochgang-Haus, the highest point of this tour (1,839 m above sea level). The Meraner Höhenweg south trail ends in Ulfas after around 21 hours of walking time. From here you can descend to Platt and take the bus to Meran or continue the tour on Meraner Höhenweg north.

Walking time: 21 hours
Difference in altitude: 600 m
Difficulty: medium to difficult

Suggestion 2: Meraner Höhenweg north: Katharinaberg (1,245 m) - Montfert (1,471 m) - Vorderkaser (1,693 m) - Eishof (2,071 m) - Eisjöchl (2,895 m) - Stettiner Hütte (2,875 m) - Lazinser Kaser (1,860 m) - Pfelders (1,640 m) - Außerhütt (1,457 m) - Ulfas (1,359 m)
Meraner Höhenweg north begins near Katharinaberg (1,245 m above sea level) in Schnalstal. The locality can be reached by public transport from Meran or Vinschgau. The Pfossental trail (marking 24) leads to Eisjöchl (2,895 m), the highest point of the tour, and on to the refuge Stettiner Hütte which offers the possibility to stay overnight. The trail then leads on to Lazins and ends above Platt after a walking time of around 12 hours.

Walking time: 12 hours
Difference in altitude: 1,650 m
Difficulty: medium

Suggestion 3: Vorderkaser (1,693 m) - Mitterkaser (1,954 m) - Rableit Alm (2,004 m) - Eishof (2,071 m) - Eisjöchl (2,895 m) - Lazinser Kaser (1,860 m) - Lazins (1,772 m) - Pfelders (1,640 m)
AlmIt is possible to cross the Texelgruppe Nature Park from west to east through the Pfossen Valley. The trail leads across Eisjöchl on to the valley Pfelderertal. Pfossental is the main side valley of Schnalstal (Vinschgau) in direction of the Texel group. There is a narrow, but accessible road into Pfossental from Schnalstal. It forks off the main road right before the locality Karthaus. We drive to Vorderkaser (1,693 m above sea level), the highest settlement in Pfossental. From there, a trail (marking 39) leads up the valley to Mitterkaser. This takes around one hour and a half. We walk on to Rableit Alm and to Eishof. From there, Eisjöchl (2,908 m above sea level) can be reached in two and a half hours (marking 39). From Eisjöchl (2,895 m), a steep trail (marking 8) leads down to Lazinser Kaser (1,860 meters above sea level) and on to Lazins and Pfelders.

Walking time: full day
Difference in altitude: 1,200 m
Difficulty: easy

Suggestion 4: Vellau (906 m) - Leiter Alm (1,522 m) - Hochgang-Haus (1,839 m) - Hochgangscharte (2,441 m) - Langsee (2,377 m) - Grünsee (2,338 m) - Spronser Joch (2,581 m) - Valtschnaljöchl (2,417 m) - Valtschnal Alm (1,871 m) - Pfelders (1,640 m)
MilchseeThis tour is very suggestive from the point of view of the landscape. It crosses the central part of Texelgruppe in direction north-south in one day. Vellau can be reached by car from Meran or by chairlift from Algund. From there a cable railway goes to Leiter Alm (1,522 m above sea level), the starting point of our walk. First of all, we walk on a comfortable, panoramic trail (marking 24) toward Hochgang-Haus, which can be reached in around an hour. From there a steep, but rather safe trail (marking 7) leads to Hochgangscharte (2,441 m above sea level) in around one and a half hours. The tour continues on an easier trail to the point where the two trails to Milchseescharte (marking 7) and to Grünsee (marking 22) part. We take the trail 22 which leads us to the shore of the lake Langsee . Then we descend to the circular lake Grünsee (marking 6). From there the tour leads us to Spronser Joch (2,581 m above sea level), on to Valtschnaljöchl and then through the Valtschnal Valley to Pfelders. In the locality Pfelders, there are minibuses to Moos and, from there, Meran can be reached by public transport.

Walking time: full day
Difference in altitude: 1,050 m
Difficulty: medium to difficult
